The nVIR virus infects the System File and applications when they are opened. Document files are not affected. When the System File becomes infected, a counter is set to 1,000. Each time the system is restarted or an application is opened, the counter is decreased. Once the counter reaches zero, the virus begins to display symptoms of infection on the system. If MacinTalk is installed, you may hear “Don’t panic” on system startup or when you open an application. If MacinTalk is not installed, unexpected beeps will be played.
